In no way was the Clausewitz designed to be an independent ship, as it was designed to operate as an escort for the upcoming German Carriers in the works. As such, the Clausewitz was designed mainly on classical thoughts of battlecruiser design. The Clausewitz would be the second of that naval expansion after the Sharnhorst-class. Wanting to challenge the British Naval fleet, Hitler ordered the expansion of the navy in a move called Z-Plan. ![]() ![]() ![]() Built as a diehard battlecruiser on similar plans as the Scharnhorst, the Clausewitz-class was one of the more successful German class of ships.
